I was probably supposed to post my thoughts about how I thought the book would go before I read the book but it's a little late so I'm just going to write this now...

Anyways, originally I had high hopes for the glass castle I was expecting adventure and tragedy but I never suspected they'd come in such large amounts. What I was expecting was a story of a girl and her family's travels. What I found was what I was expecting, but to the extreme. Some parts of the book were almost unbelievable. It was hard to think about it as a memoir. I'm glad she turned out successful in the end, she deserves a happy ending, everyone does.

"Fear is not what's important, it's how you deal with it. It would be like asking a marathon runner if they feel pain. It's not a matter of whether you feel it, it's how you manage it." ~ James Nachtwey
Fear, a small word that often tries to move into our lives and take control. It stops us in our tracks allowing us to feel scared, we think "it's too dangerous" or "what if this happens"... Sometimes we just have to think "is fear important." I admire James Nachtwey's determined and caring personality. He takes hold of his fear and buries it deep inside in order to bring awareness to the blind eyes, the people who don't see, or refuse to see the tragedies taking place around the world. This brilliant war photographer feels empathy towards people in horrible situations and he uses his talent to aid in desperate times. His life is at risk, but fear is not important. His heart goes out to those who are suffering, the people in his photographs.

"I try to use whatever I know about photography to be of service to the people I'm photographing." ~ James Nachtwey.
Some people might ask "why photograph war?" Really they should be asking "Why wouldn't we photograph war?" James Nachtwey has not only made a career out of this but he's also made it his mission. He doesn't photograph these people to benefit himself. He does it to document catastrophes in hopes of them coming to an end. It's not an easy job but he's dedicated to making a difference.

The documentary touched on the idea of failure and depression…  Just kidding :) But seriously though? Generation jobless!?! I mean talk about crushing our hopes and telling us we’ll live a life of dept and disappointment. I mean I get the point and I understand we’re going through a bit of a rough time, but I don’t think all hope is lost;) What I took out of the film is that we need to start researching and looking up necessary  jobs that lack workers. We also need to realize we’re living in an over educated country with ample people going through to University/college and it’s hard to get into the field you want to be in. As a generation we need to be willing and prepared to take a different route and possibly consider plan B (but still push for plan A).

Personally I agree with Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson and his most astounding fact of life. I do strongly believe that everyone is connected. Just having the knowledge that we share something so amazing with the stars, the trees and the universe, is comforting. It gives me a sense of belonging and purpose. It's the belief that we are part of something much bigger. It's not just me, and a bunch of other individuals, we're all part of a whole. Everything alive is part of this amazing relationship.

This being said, I also believe this bond could change the world, if not the universe in a positive way. All we need to do is accept the fact it's there is a connection and use it for good. Maybe the amount of resentment would go down if we all realized our attachment to each other. Less people would suffer and more could thrive. Seeing the potential of this whole idea would perhaps create a place where everyone's equal. There is the possibility of peace and understanding .

Further more, the idea of atoms being shared between earth and it's surroundings is not only astounding but there's evidence. This topic has been discussed multiple times by numerous people and I truly believe the idea of an amazing connectivity is the mind blowing and believable all at the same time. I truly believe  Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson is spot on with the most astounding fact.

In the movie "The Blind Side" Michael Oher clearly demonstrates the High Five Principles. As a more dominant character in a film about ones journey for success, it is easy to place his life into charts and file it as a good example for an English class. In everyone's life there is a starting point, a place where the journey begins. This is the moment when a person realizes their purpose and where they're supposed to go in life. Not everyone can do it alone, fortunately in most cases there are other people who are able to help. Michael was able to follow his heart, even though he had to experience a lot of change and he got the bonus of learning along the way. His journey opened up opportunities as well as adventures and he finally had multiple people to access when he needed help.
High Five Principles-  Michael Oher
Follow your Heart:
  • Michael had possible dreams of a better life.
  • Michael wanted to protect his family.

  • For Michael Football was a dream of his, he wanted to make his family proud.

  • He was taken in by Tuohy family.
  • He got used to living with them and he even got his own bed, the only bed he’d ever had.
He had to get used to hurting people in football. At first he didn’t want to tackle he wasn’t working at it. it was a change he had to get used to.

Learning is Ongoing:
  • He was excepted into a good school where he worked hard and learned a lot.
  • He discovered that the Tuohy’s cared about him and he learnt the value of family and friendship.
  • He learned that the football team was his family and he had to protect them. He also learnt that he was pretty good at football

Focus on the Journey:
  • Along his journey he developed relationships with the Tuohy’s and became a part of the family.
  • Along the journey he stood up for his new mother and made sure to protect his little brother when they got into a car accident.
  • He realized he could go to college for football if he got his grades up, this was a big opportunity for him on his journey.

If you have never used a Google Chromebook, you are missing out. I personally find the chromebooks are favoured by almost every member in my FFP class. In fact if you asked which computer they'd prefer to work on I think everyone would agree on the Chromebooks. When I don't come to class early enough, I don't get a chromebook, I get a netbook. Two members of our class actually took the manner to trial when they felt as though they both deserved the last Google Chromebook. They were both entitled to a lawyer but in the end there was a vote and one of them had to settle for a netbook. Here are a few reasons for why I feel the Google Chromebooks are so desirable:
Speed...
  • The Google Chromebooks are known for their excellent speed which makes it easier when working in class or just in general.
  • Searching is quicker
  • They are Fast & Efficient
 Appearance...
  • The Google Chromebooks are more appealing to look at.
  • They have a professional sense to them
  • Wide selection of beautiful screen savers
Sharing...
  • It's simple to access your drive, gmail and other tools to share files with others.
  • As well the chromebook itself is easy to share. you can log in as yourself or as a guest.
Camera...
  • The chromebooks have amazing camera's that make it easy to use effects and take photos.
  • You can also edit photos.
Dependble...
  • I can trust it to work for quite a bit after it has been charged
  • I know it keeps my files safe

Thousands of people killed...well that's unfortunate and obviously something to be afraid of. Automatically one might think, but what will happen to my loved ones, what will happen to me? Already the fear is spreading, covering the citizens like a thick, black smog. What they need is a solution, one that the government can so conveniently offer. So with blind eyes they run unknowingly into the scheming arms of the government. Masking the fear and questions, but at what cost? When the fear was masked, so was the truth.

In V for Vendetta the film explores the idea of personal freedom vs. Government control. From the beginning of the movie you can sense the fear the citizens have of the government. It starts off by displaying the fact that the government actually controls the times you are allowed out of the house. Violent watchmen called "Fingermen" are hired to guard the streets in hopes of catching a any rule breakers whom decide to go out for a stroll. The fear of being beaten, black bagged, or never seen again comes everytime they try and have a voice. Yes, fear is a powerful weapon, but the question is not if fear itself is a weapon, the question is, just how far will the government go to create this dark dagger of distress.

Power. It's a strong word, five letters, two vowels, three consonants. But what does it mean? Well it means having the ability to do something a specific way. So let's say someone has power, that makes them able to do things their way. Obviously having power would be a desirable thing. Someone would probably go through a lot of trouble to gain this power. That would explain why in the film V For Vendetta the government knowingly took the lives of thousands of citizens. No wait, there is no explanation for killing people. The government obviously had a craving for things to be done their way... Greed. Another strong word, also five letters, two vowels and three consonants. Greed and power are a package deal. Strange to think that the word structure is not the only connection they share.

Our Class Adventure...

Recently my class and I went on an interesting field trip, which I decided would be fun to blog about...
So anyways we took a school bus to this old tannery full of multiple business'. Actually to be more specific we went to the Communitech hub. We saw an interactive art wall, a wall that displayed art and we saw some normal walls but that's not very exciting. After that we got to talking about business. We disscussed renting all inclusive work spaces, and when I say all inclusive, I mean coffee. Later on we went into VeloCity and saw a bunch of people working, I don't know if we were bothering them or not but they seemed pretty happy. They even had a photographer taking pictures, it was like the paparazzi. Then we went and discovered what Canadian Tire was doing there, which is good because I had been wondering that ever since we walked in. Shortly after we entered a room with an amazing scenery and were able to enter a three dimensional virtual world. I even got to experience jumping off a bridge, I could have lived my whole life in that room with those crazy alien antenna glasses. This spectacular invention was called "The Hive" and was by Christie Digital.

Me with the normal 3D glasses, the weird glasses were way cooler :)

Then after I had that awesome experience, I went along with my classmates to the Google office and I think mind blown wouldn't even begin to describe my reaction. We got a tour of the place and I now officially want to live there. It had all the essential things needed to survive, a bed, food around every corner, and a slide, I mean what else does anyone need ;) Surprisingly that's not all, they have the best taste in furniture ever and they have yoga on Monday's. "Become a Google employee" is now officially on my bucket list. After our tour we handed in our name tags and I would have gotten a drink from the café  but the bus came on time. So we headed back to the school with the hope that one day we would be able to go down the red "Googler Only" slide.
